rthophotography is the process of taking a two-dimensional photograph,
rectifying it to an accurate three-dimensional model of the ground beneath a
portion of the photograph and producing a more accurate and topographically
correct image with a higher degree of accuracy.
There are as many types of orthophotography as there are of companies that
produce this product. By using a variety of lenses, elevations, and modeling
techniques, you can reduce building lean, shadowing and other hidden
imperfections in the imagery.
The cost of this process is mainly a result of how automated the process is, the
overhead of the company and whether the imagery is digital or analog. Of all the
mapping products, orthos have become the most commoditized – mainly because of
how automated the production has become.
